About The Puppetry Institute!
The Puppetry Institute is a non-profit art center located within
the Capitola Mall, in Capitola, California!
Our goal is to promote creativity and make it accessible to all; while teaching valuable skills and providing a safe space for exploration.

We are open to families, kids 8+, and adults alike!
Paid classes and donations help support our mission to bring art to under-served and at-risk youth, and to make the world a cooler place
one puppet at a time!

Our Mission Statement
The Puppetry Institute serves the Central Coast, and surrounding areas, giving all who walk through the doors a chance to experience first hand the beauty and wonder of an art form that encompasses all the other arts into one. Through the support of students and patrons, we make the art available to every one with a desire to bring their imaginations to life!

We plan to do this through 3 different approaches:
- Education - Scholarships - Performances -
Education
Explore puppetry through workshops, classes, and demonstrations. Puppetry is more then just a sock with googly eyes -- it's design, construction, movement, masks, sewing -- the list goes on.

We offer a wide variety of classes in puppetry, theater, and FX skills, that cannot only be counted as art credits but also math, science, and engineering. We have 1000 sq ft space where students can learn in a lively and creative environment; or, we can do 1 and 2 hr pop-up classes at a location of your choosing.

All classes are fit for any skill level, scholarships available for under-served/economically disadvantaged kids k-12 from through-out the Central Coast region.
Scholarships
Creativity benefits a child's wellbeing and development, yet material expenses can be a road block for many families that could benefit from this powerful outlet the most.

The scholarship program is open to ages 6-16 from at risk or low-income situations, as well as kids of essential workers.
Performance
We have created and produced affordable and accessible performances that would work with and perform for schools, institutions, festivals, and events throughout the Central Coast and surrounding areas, sharing our art and message with people outside of the greater Santa Cruz area.
